All-Star Happenings

Dear All-Stars and Parents,

We have our first retirement home performance this Saturday, December 10th at Atria Tamalpais at 1 pm. (853 Tamalpais Avenue, Novato) Please arrive by 12:45 pm. Please wear the following under your red warm up jacket and pants: black leggings, black high tops, and black socks with your new red All-Star t-shirt. Hair is 2 braids with red curling ribbon or red bows at the end and a Santa Hat securely fastened to your head with bobby pins or elastic. All-Star earrings may be worn. (Please wear these same things to each retirement performance.)

Thank you to the parents who have helped with our fundraising activities and to those of you who participated. You will see the credits on your accounts as they are processed. Our Novato Tree Lighting hot dog and goodies extravaganza raised $500 toward the production props. Yay!

Speaking of props, we will need parent help during the holiday break to assist us in building the props and also to begin rhinestoning our Production costume. We will be building counters for our 50’s production number. Please let us know when you are available.

We want to be sure you are aware that Urban Jamm is both a convention and competition when thinking about participating in the Nuvo Convention.

Congratulations to Claire Weber, Jack Manville, Jemma Manville and Maya Valls on receiving $75 toward their costume for their community essays. We will have another scholarship essay opportunity for 1 Nuvo scholarship. We will let you know the topic and due date.

If you haven’t responded, please let us know how many will be bowling December 18th at our annual All-Star Holiday Party.

Thank you!

Confirmed Competitions/Conventions/Performances

Greetings All-Stars,

Here is a list of our confirmed competitions, conventions and performances. We are super-pumped and excited about our decision to go to Urban Jamm this season.  This is a company that we know well and the owner Johnnie has already promised us a $20 per dancer discount for the Nationals convention.  The additional cost for the convention should be a wash since the hotel costs are so much lower than Long Beach.  The dancers will enjoy cutting-edge dance training throughout each of the 4 days and will compete at night.  I am thrilled at the possibility of the entire team staying in the same location which will increase team-bonding.  Since the dancers will be busy for many hours: parents will have lots of time to enjoy the local beauty in Orange County; like Newport Beach or shopping at Fashion Island.

Please make your hotel reservations for Urban Jamm Nationals today!  We are currently able to reserve at the Hilton Irvine for Nationals at $129 from 6/29-7/21-949-833-9999 Being that the convention starts on the 29th, you will likely want to stay on the 28th.  We are currently negotiating a $149 rate for 6/28 due to a county-wide baseball convention that took all the rooms.  I will notify you next week about when to call and reserve the 28th at a discount.  While on the line with a Hilton representative you may also book for the San Jose Doubletree and Rancho Cordova Hampton Inn at the same time (mention the competition name for discount).

9. L2D Service Society Meeting

A few weeks ago I mentioned the idea of starting a studio service society. The kids seemed into it and its something that I truly feel passionate about, so let’s do it!  The L2D Service Society will give the dancers an opportunity to plan events and fundraisers to give back to the community in ways that are important to them.  I will serve as a hostess/advisor and offer guidance as I let the kids make the decisions/planning together.  We will hold our first meeting/brainstormng session after practice on Friday, November 18th at 6:30.  Any parents interested in helping?  Pizza will be served!

10. Costume Scholarships! 4 lucky All-Stars will be awarded a free production costume ($75 value).  Please submit a short essay about Creating a Better Community.

What issues are important to you?  Why are they important? What would you do to help? What would be your action plan?

Please submit your essay by Wednesday, November 16th to be considered.

11. Nationals Update

We are still gathering information but please keep the the week of June 26th open.

Thank you and

Go All-Stars!

Tara, Jeanne
